The US Navy is Turning 244 Years Old!!!

The first Navy Day was organized on October 27, 1922. This date was chosen in honor of then President Theodore Roosevelt’s birthday. President Roosevelt was a former assistant Secretary of the Navy and a naval enthusiast. In the 1970s, Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt worked with the Navy League to define October 13 as the new date of Navy Day. Historical research had shown that the “official Navy birthday” was determined to be October 13, 1775. However Navy Day in the United States is still largely celebrated on October 27.
